Russell Webster

Russell Webster was appointed Business Unit Manager of Taylor Hobson in July 2024. Russell joined us from Nu Instruments, an AMETEK Business Unit, where, as Business Manager since 2017, he successfully expanded the business, revitalised the product portfolio, and greatly reduced lead times for Nu’s capital-intensive equipment. Prior to joining AMETEK, Russell held several leadership positions across various industries and companies, including Thermo Fisher. During this time, he specialised in optimising working capital while driving increases in revenue and profit. At Taylor Hobson, Russell will continue implementing continuous improvement strategies as part of the company's commitment to achieving operational excellence.

Iain Baxter

Iain Baxter was appointed Sales & Marketing Director of Taylor Hobson in March 2021 and leads our globally dispersed team of over 175 sales, service and support staff. Iain started his career at Taylor Hobson, in R&D, graduating in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University. He went on to hold senior business development and general management roles with mid-cap groups and SME’s operating globally in capital equipment, aerospace, oil & gas, process, medical device and electronics manufacturing sectors. Iain has 30 years of commercial experience delivering sales growth, new market entry, product development and strategic partnering, particularly in APAC and the Americas.

Gareth Davies

Gareth Davies was appointed Technical Director of Taylor Hobson in August 2026. Gareth joined us from PerkinElmer, where, as Senior R&D Director for Material Characterisation, he established a UK Optical Centre of Excellence with global remit and delivered an award-winning product platform. With over 20 years' experience across scientific instrumentation, advanced coatings and precision engineering — in global corporations, SMEs and start-ups — Gareth has built technical organisations that innovate to turn complex technology into our customers' competitive advantage. Gareth holds a BSc (Hons) in Physics and an MSc in Laser Applications & Micro-machining from the University of Hull. As Technical Director, Gareth is responsible for research, product development, engineering and intellectual property, and is committed to building the teams, platforms and processes that deliver lasting value for our customers, from concept through to global deployment.

Phil Stevenson BA (Hons) ACMA CGMA

Phil Stevenson was appointed Finance Director of Taylor Hobson in September 2022. He is responsible for the Finance and IT teams, driving the financial strategy and leadership of the business to meet its strategic objectives, along with maximising digitalisation opportunities. Phil joined Taylor Hobson in 2017 as Finance Business Partner, before spending two years as Financial Controller for AMETEK GB and Nordic. Prior to joining the business Phil held a variety of finance roles with Honeywell, including at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 and London 2012 Olympic Park. Phil has an Accounting and Finance degree from De Montfort University and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

John Willson

John Willson was appointed Director of Operations in April 2024, bringing extensive experience and proven leadership to the role, with a strong track record of success in developing Operational teams, technical excellence, and innovative processes. Since joining Taylor Hobson in 2006 as an Engineering Apprentice, John has held various managerial roles within Operations and earned a BSc in Engineering from the University of Portsmouth. With year-on-year improvements in on time delivery, Inventory reduction, supply chain management and lead time reduction we have entered a new era of continuous improvement to keep Taylor Hobson at the forefront of precision Instrument Manufacture.

Dr. Jürgen Petter

Jürgen Petter was appointed Director of Optics Metrology in November 2018. Jürgen joined Taylor Hobson as ‘Director - Luphos technology’ in 2014 when Luphos GmbH was acquired by Ametek and merged into Taylor Hobson. Before that Jürgen was co-founder and CEO of the Luphos GmbH, a small German spin-off company of Darmstadt University of Technology which he helped to build to become an international known new player in metrology solutions in the optics market. Jürgen holds a Diploma and a PhD in Physics from Darmstadt University of technology. In his current role he’s responsible for the product and market development of Taylor Hobson metrology systems for the optics market.
